September 2020 Virtual F2F Meeting
ZOOMwas proud to host the eighthBioData Catalyst “Face-to-Face” meeting and the secondconducted entirely virtual. 116BDCatalyst consortium, Fellows, and NHLBI members attended across the two-day meeting focused on Fellows Cohort I feedback, aligning WP3.1 cross-team priorities, as well as scaling across all BioData Catalyst initiatives.
Day 1kicked off with opening remarks by Alastair underscoring the need to shift to an operational ecosystem with a focus on building a more cohesive user experience. Stronger project management, user support infrastructure and cross-team collaboration/communication being critical to this endeavor. Fellows Cohort I provided an excellent recap of their biggest wins and challenges to date, showcasing both the technical capabilities of BDCatalyst and the value of the Fellows’ involvement to the program. Presentations, report backs, and discussions around a unified help desk, metrics, WP3.1 cross-team development and data ingest/release prioritization rounded out Day 1.
Day 2started with Working Group and RAS updates, followed by a spirited discussion around a Common Metadata Model. After lunch, breakout sessions for PI’s, Developers and Fellows (both old and new) continued the theme of reassessing current status as well as the need to better align and manage both ongoing and future effort. NHLBI leadership and the EEP closed the meeting by providing valuable feedback and recommendations for the path forward; stronger project management and focus on the user experience as a guide to furthering the science.
